Malawi Consumer Price Indices (CPI) Dashboard

May 2019

The National month to month Inflation rate for May, 2019 stands at -0.8 percent compared to -3.9 percent registered in April, 2019. Food inflation rate is at -2.4 percent compared to -8.4 percent recorded in April, 2019 while Non Food Inflation rate stands at 0.5 percent compared to 0.2 percent recorded in April, 2019.
 
The urban month to month inflation rate is at 0.1 percent. Urban Food and Nonfood inflation rates stand at -0.6 and 0.5 percent respectively.
 
The rural month to month inflation rate registers -1.6 percent. Rural Food and Nonfood inflation rates stand at -3.3 and 0.4 percent respectively.
 
The headline inflation rate (year on year) for May 2019 stands at 8.9 percent as was recorded in May, 2018. Food and Non Food Inflation rates stand at 13.0 and 5.7 percent respectively.

 

Note : The National Statistical Office will continue releasing the month to month Inflation rates as best practice and to be in line with other countries within SADC Region.
