Pre-Revised GDP Time Series 1994-2003
The current national accounts time series for Malawi (2002 – 2010 ) are compiled according to the guidelines of the Systems of National Accounts 1993 (1993 SNA). The previous version of the Malawi national accounts (MNA) figures were based on 1968 SNA, and had to be updated in line with the revised 1993 SNA international guidelines. Shortly, the MNA will be revised according to the SNA2008, whose implementation is underway.
The current MNA were launched in 2007, and are described in the National Accounts report 2002 -2005 . The main changes due to the revision were the inclusion of the small holder production and production for own use, which led to an upward revision of GDP by about 37 per cent on average. The pre-revised time series are presented below – covering the period 1994-2003. Please note that the figures are not consistent with the current time series.
